Boehly addressed the squad after their defeat against Brighton on Saturday

Chelsea co-owner Todd Boehly reportedly ‘singled out’ one senior player during a dressing room speech to the first-team squad on Saturday.

Boehly went into the dressing room at Stamford Bridge shortly after watching the Blues lose 2-1 at home to Brighton & Hove Albion.

During the conversation, he described the club’s season as “embarrassing” after spending over £500m on players across the two transfer windows.

Additionally, The Guardian also reported that one senior member of the squad – signed for a large fee within the last 12 months – was singled out and heavily criticised.

The name of the player, which is remaining disclosed, has allegedly become disillusioned with the ongoing situation at Stamford Bridge and appeared frustrated in training before Chelsea’s 2-0 defeat against Real Madrid last week.

Caretaker boss Frank Lampard insisted that he had no trouble with Boehly coming into the dressing room to speak with the team.

“I am comfortable with that. I had my things to say after the game,” he said.

“There is maybe some criticism of our old owner of not coming to games and being around that wasn’t always true.

“I remember moments as a player of owners first coming into dressing rooms, I remember being happy. I don’t think it’s a bad thing.

“I had my things to say, if an owner wants to come in and be positive and speak to the players, they can do that.”

Chelsea face an uphill battle to reach the semi finals of the Champions League as they look to overturn a two-goal deficit against Real Madrid.
