Thomas Muller is cranky over Ireland’s tactics and the referee after Thursday’s game

Suck it up

Kevin McGillicuddy

Pipe down there Mr Muller.

Thomas Muller is probably not used to being shackled by any defence, and the German striker drew a blank for the first time in 2015 in a German jersey on Thursday night in the 1-0 loss to Ireland.

The Bayern Munich man missed a few opportunities early in the game, while he was largely ineffective in the second half as John O’Shea and Richard Keogh stifled the striker and his colleagues.

But the front man has come out in the days since the loss at the Aviva to have a right old moan at the referee on the night and the tactics used by Ireland,

‘Ireland only defended and played long balls. We had decent chances and gave nothing away.’

‘In the end we wasted too many chances and conceded an unnecessary goal after a mistake, coupled with a lot of play-acting and a week referee. Even if it sounds stupid, we didn’t play badly.’

Germany had 16 unsuccessful attempts on the Irish goal while they also dominated possession in a hugely frustrating night for the world champions.

But seriously Mr Muller, suck it up, and we’ll see you in France (hopefully)
