Luis Suarez is in trouble again.
The Barcelona forward has mostly steered clear of trouble since joining Barcelona in the summer of 2014.
There’s been no racism/biting incidents which dogged the Uruguayan’s time at Liverpool, but he has received a two game suspension for an incident during Barcelona’s game against Espanyol.
Tempers flared during the first-leg of the Copa Del Rey tie when goalkeeper Pau López allegedly stamped on Lionel Messi, and there were reports that Neymar received racial abuse from the Espanyol crowd.
During the second leg earlier this week, which Barcelona won 4-1, the tension boiled over again and Suarez was at the centre of a dispute. The referee’s report noted that Suarez had insulted the Espanyol players and blamed the 28 year old for initiating a scuffle between the opposition.
“Whilst all the Espanyol players climbed the stairs in the tunnel towards the dressing rooms, he (Suarez) waited for them and confronted them saying on various occasions: ‘Here I am waiting for you, come here; you are a waste of space.’
That provoked a clash between players from both clubs, forcing security personnel present and the managerial staff from both teams to intervene.”
Suarez has been banned for two Copa del Rey games, but Barcelona say they will appeal the ruling.
Despite Suarez’s role in the scuffle, we’re surprised Papakouli Diop hasn’t received further disciplinary action.
The Espanyol midfielder was sent-off in the 76th minute of Wednesday’s game, and reportedly told Suarez “I shit in your whore mother.”
It’s hardly an excuse, but no wonder Suarez was so angry.
