What a shame.
Adam Rooney is set to miss the next six weeks with injury, ruling the Dubliner out of the Republic of Ireland’s friendlies against Switzerland and Slovakia next month, and seemingly denting any chances of making the Euro 2016 squad.
The striker has been in prolific form for the Aberdeen this season, scoring 19 goals and putting himself in serious contention for the Ireland squad.
However, the 27 year old picked up a thigh injury in training last Thursday, and now faces up to a spell on the sidelines.“Adam took a slight strain on his thigh doing some shooting after training on Thursday,” Aberdeen manager Derek McInnes told BBC Scotland.
“It’s developed into something a wee bit more. He’s going out to be for a good few weeks. You would have to suggest it will be in the region of six weeks.”
Rooney would’ve been in with a good chance of earning his first Ireland cap in the March friendlies, but despite facing an unwanted spell on the sidelines, seems to be remaining positive.
Gutted to pick up an injury! Hopefully will get back earlier than expected and the lads can get the 3 points today! #positivethinking
