It's on. It's off

Who’s next?

That’s the question everyone is asking after Liverpool owners FSG made the decision to sack Brendan Rodgers on Sunday evening.

Jurgen Klopp is the standout candidate, given that the two-time Bundesliga winner is without a club having left Borussia Dortmund last summer.

Carlo Ancelotti is also a contender, but reports in Italy suggest the former Chelsea and Real Madrid manager is on a year-long sabbatical from football and is not tempted to break it for Liverpool.

But it is the pursuit of Klopp that is causing the most interest among Liverpool fans.

He would certainly represent a coup and a statement of intent from FSG, but there are mixed reports emerging from those with close connections to German football about whether or not Klopp is bound for Anfield.

Former Middlesbrough forward Jan Age Fjortoft claims that Klopp will be the next Liverpool manager.

This follows reports in the Bosnian media that Zeljko Buvac, Klopp’s assistant at Dortmund, travelled to Liverpool on Sunday for talks with the club.

But German journalist Raphael Honigstein, who is close to Klopp, says that no contact has been made.

With the international break now here Liverpool have two weeks before their next game – standby for plenty more twists and turns between now and then.
