The Champions League final of 2016. How will it be remembered?

Will it be for the Sergio Ramos opener that looked ever so slightly offside? Or will it be for Antoinne Griezmann’s crossbar-rattling penalty miss? How about Yannick Carrasco celebrating his equaliser by running into the crowd and kissing his partner?

No. Milan’s all-Madrid final of 2016 will be looked back on by football fans around the world for the night that Rio Ferdinand wore a tuxedo.

The former Manchester United skipper took up his place in the BT Sport studio for the match and opted to go all out in the dress-stakes for the big occasion.

Predictably, Twitter was intrigued by his choice of outfit.

Some suggested he’d look more at home alongside Len Goodman than giving his opinions on the big game.

Then there was the suggestion that he’d lost a bet…

And that he was throwing his hat into the ring for Daniel Craig’s job..
