The new Barcelona jersey will have a distinctive old school touch

For the time being anyway

Barcelona have decided to go retro with their new kit, for the time being anyway.

The Catalan club famously didn’t have a shirt sponsor on the front of their jersey until 2006, when they signed a deal with children’s charity Unicef.

Qatar foundation became the sponsor in 2011, and Qatar Airways in 2013. However, the current agreement is set to expire, and Barcelona are clearly looking to explore all their options before inking a new deal.

This means the first batch of the new Barcelona jersey’s sold won’t feature a sponsor.

“When the current shirts are all out of stock, the new shirts will appear in the shops, without a sponsor, for now,” Manel Arroyo, one of the club’s vice-presidents, told Catalan radio.

“There will be a sponsor. We are working on it, me and the commercial team. Everything is following the path it should. The only thing I can say is that to do our job well, we have to be discrete and silent regarding the negotiations.”

Here’s a leaked impression of the new sponsor-less Barca jersey:
