Steven Gerrard will “never be at peace” with not winning the Premier League

Not a prestigious bunch. Still, they all have more Premier League medals than Steven Gerrard.

The list goes on and on. Go through all those United squads, those two Man City outfits, and there are too many duds who have that claim to fame. It might never end.

Since leaving Liverpool last year off the back of a Stoke thumping and Crystal Palace humbling at Anfield, Gerrard gave up on the dream of ever winning the English league and left for pastures new on the west coast of America.

Out of sight and, now, he’s firmly out of mind.

And, in an interview with The Telegraph, the former Liverpool skipper admitted that he will never be at peace with the lack of medals he accrued over his career.

Gerrard’s honours

  • FA Cup x 2
  • League Cup x 3
  • Champions League x 1
  • UEFA Cup x 1

Throw in a Super Cup and a couple of Community Shields in there too. Not too bad but when they talk of Gerrard and remember his legend, they’ll assume that he did more and won more.

“You look back at the highs and the lows,” he said in the Telegraph.

“I always recognise that I achieved some incredible things. But I also reflect on some of the lows and wish that they were different, that I had achieved a little more.

“I don’t think I’ll ever be at peace. When it comes to football, I’m quite hungry, quite selfish.

“I want more than perhaps I can have. Maybe I’m a bit like a kid, a bit immature, when it comes down to that. I wish I was sitting here with an extra 10 medals.”
