There were a few eyebrows raised when Philippe Coutinho made the PFA Team of the Year, and perhaps justifiably so.

The Liverpool starlet has been one of the stand-out performers for the Reds this season, which saw him claim a spot in the PFA Team of the Year.
Initially, some fans felt that Chelsea’s Cesc Fabregas was unlucky to have missed out on the Best XI following his stellar performances in the first half of the season. However, the Spaniard’s less than spectacular form towards the end of the campaign proved to have been enough to keep him out of the team.
It turns out that another Premier League midfielder might have been unlucky to miss out on one of the midfield spots. When you compare the stats of Swansea’s Gylfi Sigurdsson this season to that of Coutinho, it makes for some interesting reading.
The Icelandic midfielder outperformed the Brazilian in most key areas including goals scored, assists, chances created and key passes.
When you crunch the numbers, perhaps there was a case to be made for Sigurdsson’s inclusion in this season’s Premier League Team of the Year.
