Liverpool hung a St. Peter’s Dunboyne GAA jersey beside leading goalscorer Mohamed Salah’s shirt ahead of the club’s Premier League match with Stoke City on Saturday.
The 53-year-old from Meath is still currently in critical condition at Walton Neurological Centre after he was the victim of an unprovoked attack by Roma fans before the first leg of the Champions League semi-final at Anfield on Tuesday.
Liverpool paid tribute to the former Dunboyne chairman by posting the message ‘Sean Cox, You’ll Never Walk Alone’ on the advertising boards before kick-off while a Dunboyne jersey hung in the dressing room when the players arrived at the stadium.

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp also paid his respects to Cox on Friday by wearing a special tri colour badge during his pre-match press conference and commented that the attack on the Irish man highlighted the ugly side of football.
“The game on Tuesday showed the beauty of the game, what happened before was ugly face,” the manager said.“When I heard, I can’t describe my emotions. It should never happen. It’s unbelievable. All our thoughts & prayers are with Sean Cox and his family.
“It should never have happened. It shouldn’t have before and shouldn’t happen in the future.”
