These days, it’s worth reminding yourself that just because you’ve seen something on the internet it doesn’t always mean it’s true.
Another reminder of this came on Wednesday morning as Sky Sports News HQ picked the bones out of Celtic’s shock defeat to Gibraltarian champions, Lincoln Red Imps.
Before an interview with former Celtic striker Andy Walker, presenter Mike Wedderburn opened by adding some context to the scale of the shock defeat. He said:
“Apparently, Celtic’s opponents play on average to a crowd of around 28 and they don’t have access to their pitch on Tuesday because it’s used by the local metal detecting society.”
There’s no denying that such stats are truly unbelievable. Would then again they should be… because they’re absolute tosh.
Yet again, this is the work of the man behind the Twitter account @WeahsCousin (well worth a follow if you don’t already) who, as we told you a few weeks back, is an absolute master at catching people out with his bogus quotes and stats.
He sent the following tweet during Celtic’s humiliating defeat in Gibraltar, ironically mocked up to look as though it had come from Sky Sports News HQ. Sure enough, the two ‘stats’ mentioned both appear along other fictitious facts including how their manager only got the job because he won a competition.
