Shamrock Rovers’ Graham Burke scores early goal of the season contender in Bray rout

Matthew Gault

Screamer.

Shamrock Rovers give their League of Ireland campaign a thrilling shot of adrenaline, thumping Bray Wanderers 6-0 at Tallaght Stadium.

There was plenty for Stephen Bradley to be delighted about but Graham Burke’s opener will surely live longest in the memory, the forward producing a spectacular effort to get the ball rolling so to speak on Monday night.

Spotting Bray keeper Aaron Dillon off his line, Burke unleashed a wicked first-time effort with his left peg. Sailing through the air, the ball took that ever-satisfying clip off the bottom of the crossbar as it went in. It always looks better when they go in like that.

And it opened the floodgates, too, with Brandon Miele (2), David McAllister, Daniel Carr, Sean Cavanagh also finding the net in an emphatic victory for the South Dublin side.

With Rovers rampant, those fans that braved the cold were treated to a wonderful attacking display. Assuming that Saturday’s trip to Limerick goes ahead in defiance of Storm Emma, Bradley and the Rovers faithful will be hoping their side can turn on the style once more.
