He hasn't played a minute in the Premier League this season

He hasn’t played a minute in the league this season.

Sergio Romero wants to leave Manchester United this January, according to The Independent.

The Argentine goalkeeper has not played a minute of Premier League football this season, and United’s loss to Bristol City in the Carabao Cup means there will probably be no more chances for Romero to start in goal this season, other than in the FA Cup.

Argentina boss Jorge Sampaoli has reportedly told his players they won’t be selected if they are not playing regularly at their respective clubs, and Romero is stuck competing with one of the best goalkeepers in the world in David De Gea.

If he does not play enough before the World Cup in the summer, his spot in the starting XI for his national side could be snatched from him by Real Sociedad’s Geronimo Rulli.

It is very unlikely that he would be dropped from the squad altogether, but he needs game time if he is to keep his place in the guarantee his spot in the starting XI.

At the very least Romero is keen to secure a loan move away from United for the second half of the season, and he reportedly has offers from the Premier League, Spain and his native Argentina.

United will probably understand his need for game time but may be reluctant to sell their back up goalkeeper as they are still competing in three competitions.
