Don’t expect to read any “Sergio Aguero pens new contract” headlines any time soon.
The Manchester City striker has confirmed the definitive end date of his time in the Premier League and it means that we’ve only got a few more seasons of the Argentine’s brilliance.
Aguero has hinted for some time now that he intends to return to his first professional club, Independiente, when his current City deal runs up.
The 27-year-old will go down as one of the most feared strikers in Premier League history and one would have imagined that that form will remain with him even when he hits the big 3-0.
But speaking to radio station Independient en la Uno, via Manchester Evening News, Aguero made his plans abundantly clear that he will return to his home country after the 2018 World Cup.
“In the last few months a lot of things have been said about a new contract, but I didn’t pay any attention,” Aguero said.
“It’s clear to me that when my contract ends, after the World Cup, I’m going to Independiente.
“Here at the club they are great with me, they always told me that they were open if the chance of a transfer arises. But where am I going to go in Europe?
“No, when I go, when my contract ends, I’m going to Argentina to play for El Rojo . From Manchester, straight to Avellaneda.”
