Saints fans are over the moon as Shane Long ends transfer talk by penning new deal at Southampton

Four more years

Darragh Murphy

The Chinese Super League has missed a trick as Shane Long is definitely going nowhere this summer.

Long has officially signed a new four-year deal with Southampton, keeping him at the club until 2020.

The striker was believed to be on the radar of a number of clubs, with Liverpool and Tottenham reportedly keen on introducing the pace of the Republic of Ireland international to their teams.

But after speaking to Saints officials since returning from international duty, Long has decided to stay put at the club he signed for in 2014, scoring 20 goals in 73 appearances since then.

“I’m delighted. I’m excited to be part of what could be a big future in the next four years for this club,” Long told the club’s website.

And, by the looks of things, overjoyed Saints fans are delighted too.
