Roy Keane on what Man United need to do to solve Paul Pogba problem

Robert Redmond

“It’s no big deal, he’s left United before.”

Roy Keane had a lot to say about his old team on Sunday evening.

Manchester United fell to a 3-1 defeat away to Liverpool in a game where they were desperately unambitious. Xherdan Shaqiri (2) and Sadio Mane got the goals for Liverpool.

If Alisson had not dropped the ball into Jesse Lingard’s path for the United midfielder to equalise, Jose Mourinho’s side wouldn’t have even come close to getting a goal.

Liverpool dominated the match from the first whistle to the last, and the gulf between the two sides was embarrassing at times.

Mourinho’s passive, reactive tactics were exposed as was the club’s short-term approach in recent years. No one should be surprised at how this has played out.

On Sky Sports, Keane said that several of the United players simply aren’t good enough to feature for the club.

“United were never really at the races, it just reflects where they are,” the former United captain said.

“They were found out and there has to be a huge worry for them going forward. I certainly believe a large number of the players playing for United today, I just don’t believe they’re good enough to be playing for Man United…”

“Whatever about scoring a goal, you have to be solid at the back and they were just completely all over the place at the back…”

He then questioned Paul Pogba’s role at the club.

The French midfielder sat on the bench for the entire match as Mourinho opted against using him in the game.

Keane said if Pogba wasn’t going to play, then there’s no point in him remaining at the club and United should look to move him on next summer.
