England’s first World Cup semi-final for 28-years went into extra-time on Wednesday night. Gareth Southgate’s side took an early lead through Kieran Trippier’s brilliant free-kick against Croatia, and they were in complete control for an hour of the tie.
However, Croatia sprang into life and England were rattled.
Ivan Perisic’s clever finish after 68-minutes brought the score level, and the Inter Milan winger almost won the game only to see his effort strike the post. England had a chance of their own later in the game, but Harry Kane headed wide and the match went into extra-time.

On ITV, Roy Keane had little sympathy for Southgate’s side. According to the former Republic of Ireland captain, they lost their composure and were punished.
“We were talking before the game about England’s composure but that’s gone out the window in the second half. It’s back to the old England,” Keane said in front of an audience of millions watching at home.
Earlier in the broadcast, Keane said that England will never have a better opportunity to reach the final.
Roy Keane: “If England don’t finish this off they will never forgive themselves.”
