Robert Lewandowski on the wrong end of a tackle that’s straight out of Sunday League

Simon Lloyd

He could have been killed.

We can all agree that there’s nothing wrong with a good, firm tackle. You know, just to let your opponent know you’re there.

Ideally though, you should try and win the ball – which isn’t what happened here.

Facing arguably the world’s finest striker in Robert Lewandowski, Switzerland’s Fabian Schär nearly kicked the Bayern Munich man into next week.

With many fearing for Lewandowski’s life, he did (eventually) get back to his feet. As for Schär, he escaped with a yellow – much to the disbelief of many viewers.

Others disagreed, claiming that a yellow was the right decision from Mark Clattenburg.

Just in case you’ve not had enough of arguing over things in recent weeks, let us know what you think of the tackle. Was it a red or did the sight of Lewandowski quadruple somersaulting his way through the Saint Etienne air make it look worse than it was?
