Robbie Keane was reportedly left ‘disconsolate’ after receiving no playing time during the Republic of Ireland’s friendly against the Netherlands.
According to The Irish Independent, The Republic of Ireland captain has decided to retire from international football following Euro 2016, and as such had hoped to get some game time at the Aviva last Friday in what would be his last appearance at the ground where he made his international debut in 1998.
Martin O’Neill used five of his six substitutes during the game against the Dutch, but Keane, who had friends in family in attendance, remained on the bench.Keane hasn’t played for Ireland since coming on as a second-half substitute against Poland last October and following his omission against the Netherlands, it appears his game time in France could be extremely limited.
The 36 year old is, however, due to play some part in Tuesday’s friendly against Belarus in Cork.
