One more year
Brendan Rodgers’ future at Liverpool has been the subject of much speculation ever since the club’s push to finish in the top four all but disappeared following back-t0-back defeats by Manchester United and Arsenal.
Their last remaining hope of silverware disappeared in a limp and lifeless performance at Wembley on Sunday when Aston Villa reached the FA Cup final thanks to a deserved 2-1 victory.
To make matter worse for Rodgers the availability of Jurgen Klopp in the summer led many to speculate that the charismatic Borussia Dortmund coach is just the man to take Liverpool to the next level.

But it seems the club are going to keep faith with Rodgers.
The well-sourced Chris Bascombe in The Telegraph reports that there on no appetite at the club to change their long-term plan and the feeling at board level is that Rodgers has suffered too many setbacks, namely the sale of Luis Suarez and injuries to Daniel Sturridge, to fully succeed this season.
“There is an acknowledgement at the top of the club that the business conducted in last summer’s transfer window has not had the desired impact, and recognition that the manager has had to deal with too many setbacks to succeed, particularly the sale of Luis Suárez and Daniel Sturridge’s prolonged absence. Between them the two strikers scored 55 goals last season.
“There is certainly no appetite to make Rodgers a scapegoat for campaign that looks like it will end up as a disappointing one, with none of the key targets met. The club’s long-term plan will not be ripped up.”
One thing is certain. Whether Rodgers leaves or stays – and it looks like it will be the former – there is a summer of major rebuilding (again) ahead at Anfield this summer.
