The cull is about to commence.
Jose Mourinho is finalising his squad for next season, and players will learn their fate on Thursday, according to The Daily Mail.
The Manchester United manager is reportedly wasting no time in getting rid of those on the fringes of the squad, and plans to speak to nine players later this week, as he attempts to cut his squad down to 24 players.
The rest of the squad will be divided into “potential Untied players” – such as Andreas Pereira – who are free to leave the club on loan deals for the upcoming season, and those who are not part of Mourinho’s plans at all – including a certain German midfielder.
Pereira is understood to have been told he has a future at the club, but he should go on loan for the upcoming season, and return to Old Trafford in a year to fight for his place.
The 20-year-old Brazilian midfielder, who has played 11 times for United over the last two years, scoring once, could join another Premier League side or a club on the continent. He signed for United from Dutch side PSV Eindhoven in 2012.
Tim Fosu-Mensah, Cameron Borthwick-Jackson and James Wilson are in similar positions, and are also set to go out on-loan. Bastian Schweinsteiger will be told he has no future at the club, while Adnan Januzaj, Will Keane, Paddy McNair and Tyler Blackett have been “sidelined”, according to The Mail.
