Real Madrid block Martin Odegaard’s chance to play in the Premier League

No chance

This time last year Martin Odegaard was the hottest property in the world football.

The teenager was doing a tour of various clubs across Europe as he looked to settle on where he would do the most of his growing up as a footballer.

The Norwegian international eventually settled on Real Madrid, but the weight of expectation proved almost too much for him last season, and he mixed the good with the fairly average in his time with Madrid’s B side under the tutelage of then coach Zinedine Zidane before his first team debut at the end of last season.

Odegaard had long been linked with a loan move to England, or even Celtic in Scotland, over the last six months to continue his football development.

Jurgen Klopp is known to have been keen on the player, but Marca are reporting than in the wake of the transfer ban handed out to Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid on Thursday, the player will not be going anywhere.

Liverpool are desperate for an injection of something a little bit different to their midfield, but any hope they have of taking the teenager to England look to be dead in the water.

Any loan move is complicated by Zidane’s insistence the player stay at the La Liga side and continue his work with the first team as the Frenchman looks to make a big impression  in his interim role at the Bernabeu.
