Music to every Reds fan’s ears

Liverpool fans can breathe a sigh of relief after Raheem Sterling insisted he was hoping to sign a new contract with the club soon.

The England forward’s representatives have been in talks for some time, with reports suggesting the 20-year-old had turned down an offer of £70,000 a week to stay at Anfield.

Concerns about his willingness to accept the club’s early offers have prompted fears that he may be considering leaving Liverpool when his contract expires next summer.

But, following his goalscoring performance in yesterday’s 2-0 victory over Southampton, Sterling allayed those fears and insisted he was very happy at the Merseyside club.

He said: ‘We’re working on [a new deal] and hopefully it will be sorted soon.’

Of the club’s recent run of good form that has catapulted them right into the thick of the race for Champions League places, Sterling said: ‘We knew we were top four material from the start of the season. Obviously, it didn’t go as planned at the start but now we’re showing what we can do.
