Player ratings for Liverpool 1-1 Everton

Super Salah, lousy Lovren

Matthew Gault

How have Everton walked away with a point?

A Wayne Rooney penalty clinched a point for Everton despite Sam Allardyce’s men being outclassed in the Merseyside derby.

Mohamed Salah’s wonderful opener had set Jurgen Klopp’s side on the way to three points but Rooney levelled from the spot after Dejan Lovren’s foul on Dominic Calvert-Lewin.

Here are our player ratings for the clash at Anfield.

Liverpool

Simon Mignolet 6

A quiet day at the office for the Belgian – just the way he would have wanted it.

Joe Gomez 7

He may only be 20 but Gomez has such great composure on the ball and is really earning his place in Klopp’s side.

Ragnar Klavan 6

The veteran Estonian didn’t exactly have his hands full with Niasse considering Everton were camped in their own half for most of the game.

Dejan Lovren 4

The Croatian was practically faultless until he pushed Calvert-Lewin to the ground, giving the referee no option but to award Everton the penalty. Rash and naive defending from an experienced player.

Andy Robertson 6

The Scotland international stepped in for the injured Alberto Moreno and barely put a foot wrong in just his fourth start of the season.

James Milner 6

Did a lot of tidy work in the middle, leaving the more adventurous midfield play to Chamberlain.

Jordan Henderson 6

The Reds skipper completed 60 passes in the first-half, twice as much as the Everton team combined. That gives you a pretty clear reflection of how this game went.

Sadio Mane 6

Slipped at the vital moment when presented with his first chance and greedily tried to go for goal at the end of the first-half when Oxlade-Chamberlain and Salah were waiting for an easy tap-in.

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain 7

Looks a transformed player. He was a nightmare for Everton here, full of driving runs and dangerous crosses. A satisfying afternoon for The Ox.

Mohamed Salah 8

The Egyptian winger is flying – he can do no wrong at the moment. He popped up at the perfect time, leaving Cuco Martina on the floor before curling a beautiful left-footed effort into the top corner.

Dominic Solanke 6

A surprise inclusion from the start, the youngster worked hard but was unable to find the back of the net in his biggest chance to shine since joining from Chelsea.

Everton

Jordan Pickford 5

He was helpless for Salah’s goal but the former Sunderland keeper kicked the ball out of play numerous times. Not exactly helpful.

Jonjoe Kenny 6

The right-back made a crucial clearance to deny Mane in the second-half but struggled at times with Liverpool’s pace.

Mason Holgate 5

It was far from a stress-free afternoon for the 21-year-old as Everton were under constant bombardment by a wave of Red attacks.

Ashley Williams 5

Another tough afternoon for the vastly experienced Welshman as this season’s woes continue.

Cuco Martina 5

The Dutchman will not want to see Salah’s opener back as he was brushed aside too easily to allow the winger to fire home.

Idrissa Gueye 6

Was unable to stop Salah for the goal but recovered well and shielded the defence expertly in the second-half.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin 6

Was having a quiet game until he drew the foul from Lovren to give Everton the chance of nicking a point.

Wayne Rooney 7

Scored his fifth goal in his last six starts against Liverpool to sicken the Reds and earn his side a smash-and-grab draw. His pass to pick out Calvert-Lewin before the penalty incident was first-class as well.

Tom Davies 5

One of three Liverpool-born players on the pitch (with Rooney and Kenny), Davies was ineffective before being replaced by Aaron Lennon at half-time.

Gylfi Sigurdsson 5

The Icelandic playmaker was kept quiet at Anfield in another subdued display following his big-money move from Swansea.

Oumar Niasse 5

The Senegalese forward has been something of a fan favourite this season but this was not his finest hour, with Allardyce replacing him at half-time.
