Not bad at all

It was a busy day for the PFA on Sunday with the team of the season for the various division being announced throughout the day, followed by the Player and Young Player of the Year awards later in the evening.

Unfortunately there was no Irish representation on the Premier League team of the season.

However there was better news for the lucky XI who have made the best of the Championship this term.

Waterford’s Daryl Murphy is named up top for his goalscoring exploits for Ipswich Town, after he scored his 25th league goal of the season on Saturday.

They seem almost certain to secure a play-off spot meaning Murphy will have the chance to add to his tally in some vital games over the next few weeks.

Derby County captain Richard Keogh is named at centre-half, while team is anchored in goals by Keiren Westwood of Sheffield Wednesday.

PFA team of the year

The only slight quibble we may have with the team is that Patrick Bamford, Ireland Under-18 turned England Under-21 international, who was last week named the Player of the Year, doesn’t make the starting XI.

There’s also one Irishman in the League One team of the season.

Eoin Doyle is named up front, despite not having played in the league since a move to Cardiff over two months ago
