France’s love affair with the Irish support looks set to continue.
The French media has made no secret about how much they admire the fans of the Republic of Ireland, with a two-page spread in L’Equipe on Wednesday dedicated to how they’ve “sang, drank, danced and departed, leaving smiles on every face.”
And now they’re about to get up close and personal with those very same supporters as Ireland’s last-gasp victory over Italy on Wednesday night has ensured a round of 16 meeting with the Euro 2016 hosts in Lyon on Sunday afternoon.
But rather than issue an ominous warning to Ireland, who come up against the tournament favourites next, top French publication L’Equipe has welcomed the continuation of the good times.
Thursday morning’s front page is a wonderful wraparound tribute to the fact that the Irish festivities are going nowhere anytime soon.
The caption translates to: “Let the party begin again!”
And we’re sure the thousands of Irish in France will be only too happy to oblige.
