Things were said.

There was an unsavoury end to the Manchester derby on Sunday as a fracas in the tunnel resulted in milk throwing, insult hurling and a bit of handbags.

While the FA are set to launch an inquiry into the incident, Spanish publication Marca claim to know what caused the feud, which has been dubbed ‘Milk-gate.’

According to their report, members of Manchester City’s coaching staff could be heard insulting United striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic. This is what was allegedly said to the Swede:

“Ibra, you talk a lot but you move a little.”

At that point, United retaliated and it descended into a 20-man, 20-minute brawl according to some accounts, which culminated in City coach Mikel Arteta sustaining a cut to the head.

United boss Jose Mourinho was said to be prominently involved, after the Portuguese coach entered the away dressing room and angrily told the City team to turn down their music, claiming that their over-zealous, confetti-based celebrations showed a lack of respect.

City’s goalkeeper Ederson took exception to Mourinho’s presence and their disagreement led to a scuffle, during which water and milk was reportedly thrown at Mourinho.

Romelu Lukaku and City captain Vincent Kompany were also said to be involved in the melee. Both teams have until 6pm on Wednesday to provide their accounts of what happened to the FA.
