He’s alllllll-right, folks.
The prospect of facing the last three games of the season without Philippe Coutinho was not one to delight Liverpool fans, after the Brazilian was forced off just 13 minutes into the 1-0 win over Watford on Monday night.
However, what appeared to be a serious injury and the end of Coutinho’s season was nothing more than a dead leg, and the 24-year-old is expected to face Southampton at Anfield on Sunday.
“The injury is much better. It was a hard tackle and what happened was a dead leg,” Coutinho told Liverpool’s official website.
“It caused a lot of pain in the area I was hit, but the pain has reduced now.
“At the moment, I am feeling very well – the first couple of days were the most painful.
“Of course, when you have to come out of such an important like this one, and when you leave that early, it frustrates you, but thanks to God it was nothing major – just a strong tackle.
“It was nothing too serious and the main thing was we won the game and we left the match very pleased and happy because the result was very good for us.
“The main thing was for us to come home with the three points.”
Liverpool are currently third in the Premier League, four points ahead of Manchester United in fifth having played a game more. The Merseyside club face a far easier run-in, however, with games against the Saints, West Ham and Middlesbrough.
United, on the other hand, must still face both Arsenal and Tottenham in their attempt to crack the the top four, while they also face a Europa League semi-final against Spanish side Celta Vigo.
