Phil Neville attempts to count, fails miserably

Paul Moore

Poor Phil.

Football has always been a numbers game. 3 points for a win, your starting 11, 38 matches for each team in the Premier League season and the merits of a 4-2-3-1 over a traditional 4-4-2. See, football fans will be absolutely fascinated by numbers over the next few months.

Hell, you don’t have to be a massive fan of the beautiful game to understand the simple logistics of counting. 1,2,3,4,5 and so forth until you get tired or run out of fingers and toes to use.

Well, as Phil Neville did his very best to discuss the future of Everton’s Ross Barkley – at least we think it’s Barkley given the context of the conversation – the former Manchester United defender decided to numerically list some of the reasons why the England international has been desperate to impress the Goodison Park faithful.

In Neville’s own words, he (Barkley) desperately wanted to “1) score goals, 1) play well, 1) be the star…2)….4) play for England.”

Wait, wait, wait. Get the abacus out.

Take a look.

Since this clip went viral, plenty of people have been happy to point out the obvious.
