Pepe Reina has his say on Brendan Rodgers’ sacking

"I will always be a fan"

Pepe has his say.

Brendan Rodgers lost his job following a 1-1 draw with Everton on Sunday afternoon, with the club deciding to sack the manager, via a phone call from America, after three years in charge.

The Northern Irishman was unable to build on a second placed finish in the 2013/14 season, and had been under considerable pressure the past few months.

Pepe Reina spent eight years at Liverpool, making 394 appearances, before an acrimonious departure in 2013. The ‘keeper initially on-loan to Napoli, followed by a permanent transfer the following summer to Bayern Munich.

The Spanish goalkeeper, who’s now back at Napoli, was believed to have irritated Rodgers when he penned a goodbye letter while on-loan with the Italian club.Wolverhampton Wanderers v Liverpool - Premier League“Although it was not my decision to leave,” Reina wrote. “I will accept it just like I have always accepted any decision that Liverpool have taken for me.”

When asked about the chances of Reina returning to Anfield, Rodgers said: “He’s already written his (goodbye) letter hasn’t he? I was surprised at the letter when you are a loan player so I would suspect that he should come back.”

It appears Reina and Rodgers still aren’t on great teams, and the 32 year old ‘keeper tweeted today, in a somewhat cryptic manner, about the situation at his old club today.

Reina said he remains a fan of the club, and he now hopes to see “the old Liverpool come back.”

Would you take Reina back at Anfield, Liverpool fans?
