Patrick Vieira reportedly about to take over Nice as manager

He’s taking his first steps into European management.

Patrick Vieira is reportedly in talks to become the new manager of Ligue 1 side OGC Nice after their manager Lucien Favre departed to join Borussia Dortmund.

The former Arsenal midfielder has been the coach of MLS side New York City since 2016, a role which many believed would see him one day become manager of Manchester City due to both sides being owned by City Football Group.

Vieira has also been heavily linked with the Arsenal job since Arsene Wenger’s decision to leave was announced, but recent reports suggest that Mikel Arteta is now the favourite to take the helm at the Emirates Stadium.

The Frenchman is yet to win a trophy since taking over at NYCFC, but has seen league standings increase year-on-year. After 11 games so far this season, they sit third in the Eastern Conference standings on 21 points.

Favre, who has enjoyed an exceptionally successful spell at the French club, is set to replace Peter Stoger at the Westfalenstadion on a two-year deal at the end of the season.
