Remi Garde is finding life at Premier League strugglers Aston Villa mighty tough.
The club are rock bottom of the table, and despite the Frenchman coming with a fine reputation, he has struggled to make an immediate impact at Villa Park in the last six weeks since he replaced Tim Sherwood.
The club can’t score goals, they can’t stop conceding them either, but according to reports today, a 35-year-old former England full-back is whom the club feel can save their season.
The Daily Telegraph are reporting this morning that Garde is looking to sign Ashley Cole from Roma in January as the emergency solution to the club’s current perilous state.
Cole has not featured for Roma at all this term and is out of contract in 2016 having moved to Serie A in the summer of 2014.
His wages could be an issue for a club not exactly flush with cash, but Garde has admitted he is interested in the player,
“Every good player is interesting for me and Ashley is a good player. He is someone who has experience but he didn’t play for a while now. Experience is also something we need. I will speak soon with the club and I’m already working on the January window. We know what we want to do.”
We’re not so sure Cole, who’s enjoying La Dolce Vita in the Italian capital, would be interested in heading for a relegation scrap with Villa.
