Australia striker Jason Cummings has revealed that Kylian Mbappé and Olivier Giroud were so desperate to not swap shirts with him that Giroud pretended he didn’t speak English.

Cummings was part of the Socceroos side that faced France in the group stages of the World Cup and after their 4-1 defeat, wanted to secure the shirt of football’s biggest talent.

It wasn’t to be for the 27-year-old however as he failed in his pursuit and the Central Coast Mariners forward has recalled the encounter with the two stars.

“After the France game, I actually tried to get Mbappé – forget Giroud, I went for the top boy Mbappé – and he told me to meet him in the change rooms,” he told The Project on Tuesday.

“So when I was walking back to my change room and I’ve seen Giroud and I’m walking, as handsome as ever, and I asked him, ‘Giroud, please man, can I get your shirt, man? I’m a big fan, can I get your shirt?’

“And he just walked past me, pretended he never spoke English! And he’s been in the Premier League for 10 years! He just walked right past me!”

Olivier Giroud responds to Aussie claim

However more controversy has been thrown into the scenario as Olivier Giroud – who became France’s all-time leading goalscorer while in Qatar – posted a picture of Cummings’ Australia teammate’s, Jackson Irvine, shirt.

He tweeted: “Hi @jacksonirvine_ How is my english mate?”

Social media were quick to react to Giroud’s shithousery and poke fun at Cummings, who has become a popular figure in the Australia since switching his international allegiance from Scotland.

“Oh my god it’s a murder,” one fan tweeted.

Another said: “Savage on poor cumdog that.”

A third person tweeted: “Jason, did you see this one Cumming?”
