Hallam Hope was the victim of a ‘vicious assault’
Oldham Athletic player Hallam Hope has been left with ‘serious injuries’ following an assault outside the club’s stadium.
A statement released by the club said Hope was attacked on the staff car park outside Boundary Park following Saturday’s 2-0 National League defeat by Chesterfield.
The statement said Hope required hospital treatment after the assault and would be out of action for several weeks as he recovers. The incident was captured on CCTV, with the club now passing the footage on to police, who are investigating.
‘The club is supporting Hallam’
‘Oldham Athletic is sorry to have to report that our player, Hallam Hope, was the victim of a vicious assault on Saturday evening,’ the club statement read.
‘The assault took place in the staff car park following the game against Chesterfield. Hallam sustained serious injuries which required hospital treatment and he will be out of action for some weeks.
‘The matter has been reported to the Police and we have provided CCTV footage in relation to the incident. Whilst the investigation is continuing Oldham Athletic will make no further comment on the incident.
‘The club is supporting Hallam and will continue to do so. We wish him a speedy recovery from a dreadful experience.’
The 28-year-old joined the Latics in 2021, remaining with the club after their relegation from the Football League at the end of last season.
Hallam Hope started off his club career with Everton and eventually moved to Bury in 2015 after a few loan spells away from Goodison Park. He then moved to Carlisle United and Swindon Town before his switch to Oldham.
