Fear not, Arsenal fans. Your Gunners won’t be shivering their way through any more chilly North London winter evenings.
PUMA officially unveiled Arsenal’s home shirt for the 2016/17 season today and we couldn’t help but chuckle at the technical language used nowadays as kit manufacturers up their game to keep up with rivals… Or at least to sound fancier.
The jersey, which is actually pretty tasty, features ACTV Thermo-R apparel technology and it shames us to admit that we’d never heard of it.
Luckily, PUMA explained that it is “strategically inserted in both the front and the back of the shirt to help players maintain an optimum body temperature. A unique phase-change material is injected into the shirts’ inner athletic tape, which allows microcapsules to absorb excess heat and release it back to the body when needed. The taping in the shirts provides an extra snug fit, micro-massaging the skin in specific areas to enable a faster, more effective energy supply to the active muscles.”
In terms of the actual design, it’s a bit of a throwback to the early Wenger years of the mid-to-late 1990s but, while we’d have been content to simply refer to the top as red and white and lovely, PUMA went into thorough detail about the thought process behind the aesthetics.
“Rounding off the design, the printed front graphic provides a modern approach and the heat transfer gothic “A”, inspired by the gothic font that featured on the club’s crest in the past, is the official signoff on the back neck area.”
