It was a goal fit to win any game… except it didn’t.
Stoke City’s Xherdan Shakiri’s acrobatic equaliser against Switzerland is one of the greatest goals ever seen in European Championships but was only enough to take them to a penalty shootout – a penalty shootout they lost.
The only man to fail with his penalty just happened to be Arsenal’s big money new signing, Granit Xhaka who smashed his penalty wide of the post… way, way, way wide.

In typically unsympathetic style, viewers took great delight in how fantastically bad the spot-kick was.

Oi mate @Arsenal , be sure to make a note to self. NEVER let Xhaka take the penalty.

That Xhaka penalty was up there with one of the worst I've ever seen. Dreadful.

Xhaka showing his bottling attribute to AFC and Wenger, they are surely a match made in Heaven 😄😅😆

Arsenal fans weren’t too fussed though…

With Switzerland’s early exit, Gooners can expect to see their new man report for preseason a little earlier than he’d planned. Just don’t expect him to be handed the penalty duties any time soon.
