Although he only got five league games under his belt before injury hampered him for the rest of the season, his average ratings had him out in front of the rest of the squad, according to WhoScored.com. Louis van Gaal revealed that both he and the player were targeting a return for the FA Cup decider at Wembley but now it has come too soon for him.

"I have always said to Luke that he can play in the final to keep his motivation high, but now I cannot say that anymore because we are in the final," van Gaal told MUTV as if he never even thought they'd get this far.
