Manchester United have secured two new summer signings and look set to improve David De Gea’s lot at the club. They are not done yet.
On Sunday, Harry Maguire was claimed to have sealed an £80 million transfer from Leicester City to United. That deal may yet go through in the coming days but there has been no confirmation from either club of such a happening.
United have also been strongly linked with Sporting Lisbon and Portugal attacker Bruno Fernandes – his agent has apparently met with United representatives twice – but that move, and a possible one for Newcastle’s Sean Longstaff, remain in stasis.
Reports from Italy suggest, however, that United may be about to seal a big-money move that sets a host of other deals in motion.
Repubblica has stated United have agreed a five-year deal with 24-year-old Serbian international Sergej Milinković-Savić. The outlet says Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side will pay an initial £75m to Lazio, with potentially another £15m going to the Serie A side in future bonuses.
Milinkovic-Savic, who was born in Spain, moved to Lazio from Genk in 2015 and has scored 31 goals in 163 appearances since then. He made his senior Serbian debut in 2017 and has since picked up 12 caps. He has lined up in the same Serbian side as United midfielder Nemanja Matic, in Uefa Nations League and Euro 2020 qualifier matches.
As evidenced here [from 2:15], he has a horse of a right boot on him, and an eye for goal:
The story suggests that the arrival of the Serb at Old Trafford would pave the way for Paul Pogba to leave United, with Real Madrid his most likely destination. Real are waiting on Gareth Bale to move on from the Bernabeu before they go splashing any more cash, this summer, but they could yet have Pogba in for the start of La Liga season.
With their payment from United for Milinkovic-Savic, Lazio have been heavily linked with 22-year-old Trabzonspor and Turkey midfielder Yusuf Yazici.
