Michael Obafemi could be a Premier League player next season.

Michael Obafemi is being linked with a move to the Premier League following his rich run of form for Swansea City in 2022.

The Republic of Ireland international has 11 goals in the Championship so far this season, however, the Swans missed out on the playoffs this season and currently sit 14th in the Championship with two games remaining.

Obafemi’s Premier League interest.

Swansea signed Obafemi from Southampton for £2m in 2021. According to The Telegraph, “several” Premier League clubs are interested in signing the youngster.

Brighton and Watford are reportedly amongst the clubs who are circling Swansea in pursuit of Obafemi. This year especially, the 21-year-old is in red-hot form with 10 of Obafemi’s 11 goals coming since February.

Obafemi’s Premier League options.

It is unlikely that Obafemi would make the move to Watford due to their likeliness of being a Championship club next season. The Hornets currently sit 19th in the Premier League, nine points adrift in the relegation zone.

Obafemi would be better served staying at Swansea, in an environment in which he is currently thriving in under Swans boss Russell Martin.

Brighton would be a much better option, in comparison. The Seagulls are currently 11th in the Premier League under former Swansea boss Graham Potter.

The former Southampton striker would provide a much-needed physical presence in attack, which Brighton have lacked this season.

Despite the interest, another season of playing regular football in Wales may be even more beneficial than a move to the Premier League. Playtime is essential for Obafemi at this juncture in his career.
