Martin O’Neill springs massive surprise with Ireland team to play Belgium

Conan Doherty

Two games remaining, Ireland will need a win in one of them.

Martin O’Neill’s men take for the Stade de Bordeaux on Saturday (kick-off 2pm Irish time) to face off with Belgium and the atmosphere is electric.

With teams taking points off one another in other groups, it is looking likely that three points won’t be enough to secure Ireland a place as one of the best third-placed finishers.

A win against Belgium might do just that though and, actually, it could nearly ensure that the Republic qualify as one of the top two in the group.

With Jon Walters out injured for the second group game after playing 65 minutes against Sweden, the manager has had to implement change to the side.

Stephen Ward is in for the injured striker which will see Brady push further forward, either into Jeff Hendrick’s role or into Hoolahan’s role. Wes looks like he’ll go even further forward again and push alongside Long with a free role of course.

Here’s the Ireland team to take on Belgium.
