It’s not been a great few days for those that hold Manchester United dear.
After Manchester City were good enough to let them back into the top four race, United fluffed their lines at West Ham, losing 3-2 and almost certainly handing the final top four berth to their neighbours in the process.
Added to that, United supporters were disappointed to learn that Bayern Munich had sealed a deal for Renato Sanches – the Benfica youngster that many had expected to be Old Trafford-bound in the summer months.
But according to reports in France, Bayern weren’t the only German team scuppering United’s summer transfer plans.
L’Equipe claim that United held talks with Rennes about a potential deal for Ousmane Dembele before Thursday’s announcement that the highly-rated French youngster was signing for Borussia Dortmund.
The French club’s sporting advisor Mikael Silvestre – a former United player – is said to have been in discussions with his former club about a deal for the 18-year-old forward only for Dortmund to swoop in and agree to take him to Germany.
