The last ever game at the Boleyn ground turned out to be a memorable one for the Hammers, as they hung on to beat Manchester United 3-2 in a game that was as eventful as the mayhem outside that preceded it.
West Ham took the lead inside 10 minutes through a Diafra Sakho goal, but Anthony Martial levelled not long after the break.
It was also Martial that put the Reds into the lead in the 72nd minute, but West Ham's dogged refusal to back down on such a momentous night for the club was the driving force behind Michail Antonio's headed equaliser just four minutes later.
Winston Reid powered home the winner that gave the Boleyn its triumphant last hurrah, and ensured that the club's European ambitions remained very much alive.
As for United, it will be dependent on favours from other teams if Louis van Gaal's side are to play Champions League football next season.
They sit in fifth place, two points below neighbours Manchester City with a game to play. The result predictably did not go down well with fans.

Everyone else, on the other hand, was far more entertained by the Red Devils' failure to keep their fate in their own hands.
