Time to say goodbye?
Or is this just a case of football fans reading too much into a throw-away tweet?
Either way, a lot of people have interpreted Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea’s thank you message to the fans the same way.
Odds are, it was probably meant to show appreciation of the fans’ loyal support, despite them having a less-than stellar season. After all, they’ve finished a place lower in the Premier League this campaign and have endured some woeful performances.
Thank you for your unconditional support! 👏🏻 Gracias por vuestro apoyo siempre! #mufc pic.twitter.com/kb98KTA7eF

The use of the phrase ‘unconditional support’ has struck a nerve with a lot of fans. They see this as a way of him essentially saying, ‘you’ve kept it up so far, now don’t stop for my next move,’ which some seem to think will be away to Real Madrid.
As you can imagine, they’re not reacting too well.

@D_DeGea @ManUtd Stay and become our legend. Leave for Real Madrid, still be a legend, but then get treated like shit when the chips are down. Ask Casillas.
