Manchester United fans buzzing about Angel Gomes making the bench for Yeovil clash

He’s definitely one for the future.

While much of the attention surrounding Manchester United’s line-up for their FA Cup fourth-round clash with Yeovil understandably focused on Alexis Sanchez making his debut from the start, the club’s fans were equally as excited about something much more low-key.

More specifically, the inclusion of 17-year-old youth academy graduate Angel Gomes on the bench. The young attacking midfielder made his debut on the final day of last season against Crystal Palace – when he replaced Wayne Rooney – but making the 18-man squad on Friday night represented another step forward in his fledgeling career.

Gomes recently signed his first professional contract with the club and was named the young player of the year for 2017.

He is known for his passing and ball control as well as having a keen eye for goal. Although he is still in the early stages of his development, his name has been on the lips of fans for a while now and that was reflected in the reaction to his inclusion for the clash at Huish Park.

With Sanchez starting and Michael Carrick making his long-awaited return, it was a squad brimming with exciting stories for the United supporters.
