Manchester United links with Alex Sandro could be bad news for Luke Shaw

Would this be a good move?

This could spell the end of Luke Shaw’s time at the club.

Manchester United have identified their number one transfer target for January, according to a report in the Daily Record.

Jose Mourinho reportedly wants to sign Alex Sandro from Juventus, and is said to have “in the region of €90m (£78m)” to spend in the upcoming transfer window. Sandro, who was linked with moves to Chelsea and Manchester City last summer, would be expected to cost around £60m, which would be a record fee for a defender.

The Brazilian left-back is said to be keen on a move to England, and Juventus could be tempted into selling him next month if such a fee was offered.

The 26-year-old joined Juventus from Porto in 2015 for €26m, and has impressed in his time in Italy. He earned a place in the Serie A team of the season last season, and played a key role as the club reached the Champions League final.

The report also claims Mourinho is prepared to listen to offers for Luke Shaw and Matteo Darmian.

The full-backs have failed to impress the United manager, who has used Ashley Young in a left-wing back role. The 32-year-old England international has been excellent in the position, but he is out of contract at the end of the season. The club have the option to extend his deal by another 12 months, but Young, despite his impressive recent displays, isn’t the long-term solution to the problem position.

The report claims United will listen to offers for Shaw and Darmian next month. And if they are unable to sign Sandro, they will look at potentially completing a deal for Danny Rose. The Tottenham full-back has been repeatedly linked with a move to Old Trafford over the past few months.
