REPORTS: Manchester City target West Ham wunderkind Reece Oxford

Tom Victor

Manchester City could move for West Ham’s highly-rated teenager Reece Oxford as incoming manager Pep Guardiola looks to add young talent to the squad.

Oxford made his debut for the London club at the age of 16, starting the Europa League win over FC Lusitanos, and has played six times in the Premier League this season.

According to the Daily Mail, the prospect of Champions League football could tempt the youngster to move north, though West Ham will likely redouble their efforts to keep hold of the captain of their Under-21 team.

Oxford wore the armband as the Irons beat Hull City 1-0 in the first leg of the Under-21 Premier League Cup, and captained the club’s development squad for the first time when he was just 15 years old.

The 17-year-old is the second-youngest player to start a Premier League match in the history of the competition, playing 79 minutes in West Ham’s 2-0 victory at Arsenal on the opening day of the season.

He also started the defeat at home to Leicester City and the victory away at Everton, while his three substitute appearances include a 25-minute runout in the 1-0 win against Tottenham.
