Erling Haaland who?
Kalvin Phillips could win an award and be a tricky pub quiz question, all thanks to one vote from the Manchester City supporters.
‘Tis that time of the year when clubs begin to hand out awards for various achievements across the season.
One of the most coveted individual accolades you can win as a player is the fans player of the season award. After all, it’s a sign that the supporters really enjoyed watching you over the long, gruelling campaign.
At Manchester City there is one glaringly obvious name that would be the favourite but it seems the fans – with a little help from the Leeds United faithful – have a different idea.
As it stands, Kalvin Phillips is set to win the award for fans’ player of the season.
Phillips has struggled since his £45m move to the Etihad Stadium from Leeds last summer. Various injury problems and the form of Rodri have meant a lack of game time for the England international who has only featured 17 times under Pep Guardiola [starting just twice].
In a recent press conference, Guardiola said that Phillips has to “earn his confidence” if he was to force his way into the side.
However in a show of faith to the midfielder, fans have called for him to win it ahead of the likes of Erling Haaland and Kevin De Bruyne.

Kalvin Phillips on course to win
“I have just voted for Kalvin Phillips as the ETIHAD player of the Season. Do your part mate,” wrote one fan.
“Can we all raid this and vote for Phillips?” said another.
A third tweeted: “Voted for Kalvin Phillips as player of the season for Man City he’s having the best season of his career.”
The 27-year-old currently has over 50,000 votes to his name at the time of writing and remains in pole position to win the prize.
Never underestimate the power of a public vote.
