Netflix’s documentary looking back on Manchester City’s Treble-winning season has been released today.
Together: Treble winners dropped on Tuesday morning, giving an insight into how Pep Guardiola’s side conquered football and became the first English side since 1999 to win a Premier League, FA Cup and Champions League in the same season.
All six episodes feature team talks, training sessions, interviews and more as we get an access-all-areas feel to the club.
But, while we are shown never-before-seen clips, there are two glaring omissions from the docuseries that people have noticed.
One of the current things overshadowing City’s success is the 115 charges the club are facing from the Premier League. The only nod to it is the statement released by the club and Guardiola’s insistence that he had no plans to leave the Citizens.
Another key point in the 2022/2023 campaign was Joao Cancelo.
Once a firm favourite under Guardiola, Cancelo lost his place in the side and was eventually loaned out to Bayern Munich for the second half of the season after going in search of more game time.
At the time, both played down reports of a row but in a recent interview, Cancelo gave a damning assessment of his former boss.
Speaking to A Bola, he said: “Lies were told!
“I’ve never been a bad teammate for them and you can ask either [Nathan] Ake or Rico [Lewis]. I don’t have any superiority or inferiority complex towards them, but that’s the manager’s opinion.”
It wasn’t just his former boss who Cancelo was critical of, as he also slammed City as being “ungrateful.”
“I think Man City were a bit ungrateful to me when they said that, because I was a very important player in the years I was there.
“I never failed in my commitment to the club, to the fans and I always gave everything.”
