Romelu Lukaku, you’re a “candidate”, according to Louis van Gaal.
The United manager was speaking ahead of Sunday’s 1-0 win over Everton, and had no qualms talking up the player who could be set for a summer move.
The 22 year old has been in brilliant form for the under performing Toffees this season, scoring 18 goals in 28 Premier League games, and 25 in total in what has been a disappointing campaign for Everton.
“He (Lukaku) is very interesting,” Van Gaal said ahead of the visit of Everton.“When you score a lot of goals, you are always a potential candidate for clubs,” the Dutchman continued.
“Football is like that. When you look at scoring goals and making assists, he (Lukaku) does that at the highest level in the Premier League.”
“But I think every club in the world is comparing strikers.”
Earlier this week, Lukaku’s father said his son was “ready” for a move.
“I see that there is interest from Atletico Madrid, Bayern Munich, Juventus, Chelsea and Manchester United,” Roger Lukaku said.
While Lukaku’s agent Mino Raiola said in the past that if the Belgian striker had have been his client when he left Chelsea in 2014, he wouldn’t have ended up at Everton.
Roberto Martinez could have a fight on his hands to hold onto the player in the summer.
