Louis van Gaal charged by the FA over comments made after 0-0 draw with Cambridge

The Dutchman has until Monday to respond

Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal has been charged by the FA for his post-match interview after his side’s 0-0 draw at the Abbey Stadium in the FA Cup fourth round.

The Dutchman included a vague criticism of the referee’s performance on January 23 in his “everything is against us” comments which also featured condemnation of the playing surface and, bizarrely, the fact that the Cambridge players tried more than normal.

The full FA statement on the charge reads:

Louis van Gaal has been charged by The FA for media comments he made after Manchester United’s FA Cup Fourth Round match against Cambridge United on Friday 23 January 2015.

It is alleged that the Manchester United manager’s comments allege and/or imply bias on the part of the match referee and/or bring the game into disrepute.

He has until 6pm on Monday 9 February 2015 to respond to the charge.
